Her 2 year old got into her purse and colored on her couch with it....Anyone know how I can help my friend get matte lipstick out of her white couch?
Ooof...I think many of us have been there. Do you know what kind of fabric is used on the couch? It'll make a difference on how you tackle the stain. I've got a two-year-old myself and have had a lot of success with Oxyclean products. You might also try a Tide stain pen....those are normally for cleaning clothes with food stains, but who knows, it might work on a couch, too! If that doesn't do the trick, take a small amount of Tide powder detergent and rub it gently into the stained area with water and a clean cloth.
One website I just found gives these directions:
To remove lipstick stains from fabric, dab the stain with denatured alcohol, rub dish washer detergent on the stain, and wash the fabric in cold water.
(I'm not familiar with denatured alcohol, but maybe it's in the health/hygiene aisles of your local grocery store.)
Here's what another website said:
Start with alcohol, which works well. Do not rub, or you'll spread the mark. Simply take a clean, white cloth and moisten it with alcohol. Then, blot the lipstick stain, which will disappear. Another home remedy is dishwashing detergent such as Sunlight and Dawn, both formulated to fight grease. For this method of lipstick stain removal, dab on a little detergent, let it set for about 10 minutes, and then gently begin working on the stain from the outside edges inward.
My one word of caution would be to test any product you use on some hidden area of the couch to ensure that it doesn't leave a residual mark.
Best of luck to your friend!
